biography
Amalia Caputo, 1964
She holds a Bachelor in Art and Art History from the Universidad Central de Venezuela, where she graduated with honors in 1988. In 1995 she received a Master in Arts in Photography at New York University and the International Center of Photography. She has devoted to her career as an artist while she combines with her editing, writing and coordinating exhibitions works.
Since 1989 she has exhibited widely in museums and galleries in Caracas, Barcelona, Mexico and US cities. Her first solo exhibition “Somatic” was held at 80 Washington Sq. East Gallery, New York in 1995, her second solo show “Cobijo” was within the context of the X Primavera Fotográfica in Barcelona, Spain at the Convent de Sant Agustí in year 2000. In 2006 she showcased her recent work in a solo exhibition “ Fe, cuerpo y artificio”, at the Museo Alejandro Otero in Caracas, currently a traveling exhibition to Museo de Arte Acarigua Araure, also in Venezuela.

She is the recipient of numerous awards and honors. Her work is represented in various public and private collections including those of the Galeria de Arte Nacional in Caracas Venezuela, the Fundacion Banco Mercantil Collection and the Ella Fontanals Cisneros Collection in Miami, US, among others.
Lives and works in Miami, Florida, since August 2003. |
